SIV-1C cell line

The SIV-1C cell line is a biological clone of Hut78 cells permanently infected with SIVmac251 and undergoing latency (Lairmore MD, Arch Virol 1991;121(1-4):43-53). SIV expression can be reactivated by cytokine (dose dependent for TNF-α and IFN-γ or PMA/ionomycin stimulation, including expression of SIV Env on its surface. Genetic analysis of SIV-1C determined that it had a single insertion of SIV DNA in its genome (Villinger F, unpublished data).
